Chrysler Pacifica Maintenance and Repairs FAQ
Why is the Check Engine (MIL) Light on in My Pacifica?
It could be anything from dirty or damaged oxygen sensors or mass airflow sensors to a bad thermostat. We're talking faulty ignition coils, catalytic converter problems, a fuel injector malfunction, or worse -- things like a defective head gasket or some other part of the emission control system (a failed evaporative emissions (EVAP) canister purge control valve, for instance).
Of course, it could just be a case of your powertrain control module (PCM) needing reprogramming, or broken spark plugs, or even just a loose gas cap. Sometimes, nothing's actually wrong; Check Engine can just come on when, say, humidity changes. Run an inspection to figure out what's going on, and replace parts accordingly.
The Engine in My Pacifica is Misfiring. Why?
When you ran an inspection (plugged in a code reader or an advanced scan tool), did you get readings for "multiple cylinder misfires"? If so, carbon's probably built up on the engine valves. This is an issue with Pacifica models from between 2004 and 2008, with anywhere from 60,000 to more than 170,000 miles.
Try cleaning clean the chamber. If that doesn't work, the valves might need to be replaced. Update the valve spring retainers either way, though, to help keep carbon from accumulating again. If you need help with repairs, get in touch with a Mopar service center.
